Customer service at its best…

Anyone who knows me also knows that I value customer service above all else. So I’m doubly-pleased to report and document one of the main reasons that all our website hosting is done with Parrot Hosting.

Yesterday evening, at around 17:20, one of Parrot Hosting’s main servers, the Scorpio server, crashed spectacularly. All of you will know that this sort of thing is not impossible, but what is important to me and my clients is how quickly, and to what extent the problem is solved. Les Kinch, who runs Parrot Hosting, shares with me his dedication to the provision of outstanding customer service and worked through the night with his team to build a new server and upload the data relating to large numbers of client domains. This morning he did the final tweaks.

The result?

Clients on that server can now enjoy faster loading times in a more secure environment. Email management has now been upgraded to Dovecote, giving another layer of security to both POP3 and IMAP mail.

I feel safe in the knowledge that when something goes wrong (and it will) there’s someone like Les to put it right. It’s just one of the reasons why you should all consider Parrot Hosting when your domain renewal comes up. I’ll help you make the switch for free if you come through me, and Les’s hosting charges are among the cheapest around. Actually, If you’ve got less than 3 months to run on your existing deal, Parrot Hosting will add 3 months free hosting to your annual deal!

Here’s Les’ email to me this morning:

Dear Paul

We had a serious crash of our SCORPIO server last night about 17:20 hours which resulted in us losing our RAID drives on that machine. It was eventually necessary to build a new machine and transplant the data to it. This took all night and at 09:00 hrs most domains were back online.

We are still dealing with a small amount of corruption in the routing of some domain addresses but, these should be resolved shortly. Our AQUARIUS and LIBRA servers continued to function as normal throughout this period.

The new server is faster than the damaged one so we hope the enhanced performance will in some way compensate for the downtime.

Personally, I am really pleased that we responded so quickly to the issue and identified and implemented the upgraded new build with minimum delay and whilst we don’t ever wish for any downtime for our clients sites, we are at the same time relieved it was managed almost completely outside of normal business hours thereby minimising the inconvenience to both you and your customers.

If you experience any issues to your site as a result of this incident, please submit a ticket to me via your customer support panel and we will deal with it swiftly.

Thanks for your patience
